Abbey Costello is a surface pattern and textile designer based in Staffordshire, UK. Her original collection interior textiles and prints are inspired by artistic processes, creating refreshing and sophisticated designs intended for modern interiors.
Blending traditional techniques and digital imagery, her process playfully explores hand drawn, collaged and mark making qualities with a strong emphasis on layers, texture and tactility. Abbey's work is Inspired by organic shapes, peeling surfaces and unexpected colour observed in everyday life.
Fascinated by the juxtapositions of cubist collage and abstract expressionist painters, her work often begins with large-scale and expressive painterly marks, which in turn are used to create collaged compositions. Drawings are finally tweaked digitally to create surface pattern, placement prints and textile designs.
Bold and bright colours together with abstract compositions, shapes and marks add a pop of colour and fun to any home.
Abbey graduated with a First Class BA (Hons) Textile Surfaces from Staffordshire University in 2016. In 2016 she was awarded a highly commended place in the Bradford Textile Society Design Competition and won a sponsorship competition from digital print company Be Fab Be Creative.
